Good to know

FAQs.

The essentials before you head into the woods.

Is the campout safe?

Safety is our top priority. We review safety guidelines at the start of the campout, and you can review the AA Safety Card (PDF) ahead of time.

I have allergies. What should I know?

Be mindful of your allergies — for example, peanut butter will be available for lunches. Bring any needed medications, including emergency ones (epi-pens, inhalers, etc.).

Bring your meds. We don't keep extras on site.
How do I get to the campsite?

The Kuykendall camping area is in Brevard, NC. Vehicles must cross a creek to enter.

The crossing is rocky and uneven — passable only by high-clearance vehicles. Even at low water, it's not safe for low-clearance cars. Assistance is not readily available; cross at your own risk. We can help coordinate carpools — just ask.
What do I need to bring?

A tent and sleeping setup, weather-appropriate clothes, any meds, and a flashlight. We've got most meals covered. A full packing list goes out with your registration confirmation.

Do I have to be in AA to come?

Age is not a factor in YPAA — and we consider anyone willing to grow spiritually a part of our community. If you're curious, you're welcome.

More FAQs coming soon — full details get sent to the email you registered with.
About us

We are not a glum lot.

WNCCYPAA stands for the Western North Carolina Community of Young People in AA. Our mission is to bring young people in Asheville together — and to bridge the gap between AA and treatment centers.

"We are not a glum lot." — fun in recovery isn't optional, it's essential.

Our goal is to fulfill AA's primary purpose by carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers. We believe service keeps you sober, and we hope to inspire young people through meetings, events, and outreach.

Age is not a factor in YPAA. We consider anyone willing to grow spiritually a part of our community. If you'd like to get involved with the committee, talk to a member at the campout — or email us. We can plug you into meetings and upcoming events. Let us help you get involved.
